Hey everybody! How are you this morning?
Let’s learn the meaning of one more Phrasal Verb? (Vamos aprender o significado de mais um Phrasal Verb?)
Today I introduce you CALL OFF!
The verb CALL means “ligar”, “chamar” ou “telefonar”, as in Don’t ever call me back! (Não me ligue nunca mais!).
However, if we add OFF with the verb CALL, we get:
CALL OFF, which means: cancelar
Here are some examples:
Lindsey had to call off the meeting because her flight is delayed and she won’t arrive in time. (A Lindsey teve que cancelar a reunião porque o vôo dela está atrasado e ela não chegará a tempo.)
The teacher called off the class because only one student showed up. (O professor cancelou a aula porque só um aluno apareceu.)
They called off the launching of the new book. (Eles cancelaram o lançamento do livro novo.)
Vicky called off the wedding, and now Zack doesn’t know what to do. (A Vicky cancelou o casamento e agora o Zack não sabe o que fazer.)
